Kris's favorite Figliarina shoe for January 2009
Shoe and Bag Trends for Spring/Summer 2009
The shoe is the “fetish” item for spring summer 2009. Every designer has been showing shoes that are just over the top, needless to say most of us would not get caught dead wearing some of these styles, the shoe is definitely taking center stage this season.
Season of Extremes
The secret to fashion for Spring/Summer 2009 lies in a blend of sensuality and sportiness. It is this interplay of casualness and chic that gives the new looks their relaxed and modern slant, now also in demand even for formal occasions. The matching shoes and bags exude a light-hearted freshness. Contrasts determine the picture: high-tech materials clash with natural leather. Brilliant, bright colors are juxtaposed with discreet neutral nuances. High heels will be competing with ultra-flat styles for shoppers' favor next season.
Colors
Three-color themes characterize shoe and bag fashions. The basis is formed by light, neutral colors with white (either clear or with a slightly grey hue), all cream and sand tones all the way down to moleskin and pearl grey. Dark brown and black serve as contrasting accent colors. Pastel shades will be re-defined next summer, fluctuating between milky pallid hues and sun-bleached neon lights. Flattering red tones include delicate apricot or rosé nuances while sherbet shades with shimmering effects exude summery freshness. Intense colors such as red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet feature as clear, monochrome tones also in the form of color blocking or in prints. Provided with black or white contours these colors obtain enormous brightness.
Materials
The key priorities here are: soft and lightweight materials. Accordingly, the shoe and bag collections include many styles in supple lambskin nappa, soft patent leather and velvety nubuck. Special effects are produced by high-quality mock croc or python that are every bit as attractive as their genuine counterparts. Metallised leathers with a soft sheen are often combined with smooth or suede leathers. Patent and suede show these new colors to their best advantage. In tune with the eco-trend vegetable-tanned leathers with a natural touch and irregular shading or an antique finish continue to attract attention. Likewise, braiding is the latest trend for shoes and bags next summer. In contrast to this designers - not only in the sporty segment - focus on high-tech materials such as mesh, nylon, vinyl and lucite and as well as (often printed) textiles.
Shapes
In the Spring/Summer season 2009 all shapes and lasts will be allowed. For women's shoes the spectrum ranges from oval, rounded shapes, (asymmetrical) wide square lasts to short and even longer points again. Alongside such classics as ballerinas (now featuring noticeably wider necklines), loafers, urban-chic sneakers and even plimsolls (a type of athletic shoe with canvas upper and rubber sole), more and more high-upper styles will be causing a stir now. These come as ultra-flat gladiator and/or Roman sandals featuring more or less wide straps. High-upper court shoes and high-heeled platform sandals look particularly sexy. Often these styles reveal either the heel or toes. Another key styling element of this new shoe fashion are T-straps and criss-cross ties across the instep. For men elongated lasts continue to dominate the business segment presented as Oxford shoes, slip-ons or summer Chelsea boots. Above and beyond this, two shoe fashion classics are expected to herald a big comeback: the suede Desert Boot - predominantly presented in authentic, natural, sandy shades - and topsiders featured with light soles and clear, clean- cut uppers in flag colors. Indispensable: sneakers and chucks in bright colors featuring color blocking and graphic-art prints.
For women's bags volumes range from mega to clutch bags, the latter being fit for everyday use thanks to variable shapes and volumes. Alongside the soft-finish bags and pouches designers are now once again focusing more on "stand-alone" styles and short-handled bags. Decorative effects are produced by prints, embossing, pleats and batik patterns as well as by romantic floral or bowtie trims. Artisanal techniques, hand stitching and ethnic prints echo the "eco luxe" movement. Mid-summer flair is exuded by raffia baskets, large-format shoulder- strap bags and pouches featuring floral, graphic or patchwork motifs. For men weekend, bowling and cross-over bags now see competition from casual, sometimes X-large backpacks echoing mountaineering documentaries. A comeback of men's good old shoulder bags already points to clutch-bags for men, that should be "socially acceptable" by summer 2009 if not sooner.
Three trend themes for the 2009 Spring/Summer season:
ENERGIZING - CONTEMPORARY - FLUORESCENCE
ENERGIZING
Intensity, luminosity, modernity. Shoes and bags "bathe" in rich, summery colors. This theme oozes with optimism and joie de vivre. ("joy of life")
CONTEMPORARY
Graphic clarity, brightness, lightness, neutral colors, high-quality materials and purist shapes give shoes and bags a modern, urban slant.
FLUORESCENCE
Sensuality, freshness, liveliness. Flower tones, pastel shades and shimmering metallics promise a sparkling mix of romanticism and erotic appeal.

Online Interview

1. What's your full name? or do you just want Joey Enriquez for Figlia?
Joey Enriquez for Figlia is okay.
2. How and when did you start in the business?
My father Ceferino was a shoemaker. He and my mother Gloria started their shoe business in 1955 with the brand Meg's Shoes.
In 1986 I ventured in my own ladies shoe business with the brand name "Ceferino et Figli" which means Ceferino and children translated from Latin. I was the very first shoe concessionaire in SM Shoemart. Later on I would change the label to a shorter "Figlia".
In 1998 I went into partnership with Mr. Chan Kok Bin of Celine Marketing Corp. and to this day Mr. Chan and I have expanded our business into more stores and new brands Figliarina and Shūbizz.
3. Who was your very first celebrity client?
I really cannot remember exactly as it was a while ago, I think it was Tita Pilita Corales and Ms. Kuh Ledesma.
My father made shoes for Madame Imelda Marcos and Susan Roces among many celebrities and I remember a queue of cars parked in front of our Marikina factory of customers wanting to order shoes.
4. When and how did Kris become your client?
A good friend of mine, film director Elwood Perez, introduced me to Kris.
5. Any funny memorable anecdotes with Kris?
During a break for a taping for “Boy and Kris”, sitting down, Kris was playing with her shoe and the heel broke. It was a very tense moment and my staff; Demi went hiding inside the dressing room. Good thing we always bring reserve shoes. Kris still acknowledged her shoe during the show. It really gave us a scare, literally had us on our toes to always be certain about the integrity of our shoes.
6. What do you like most about Kris?
She is so honest and her life has been in the public eye since when she was young. People would emulate her ways and she is very credible.
7. What outfit or design or look do you like Kris to wear? or would
look best on her?
Any outfit or shoe would look good on her… from jeans to evening gowns. Her outfits are dictated by the occasion and by the theme of her shows. She would wear gowns with step-ins and a more casual look with strappy sandals all with very high heels.
8. For this design, what material will you be using? what color? Why these?
I am using a lot of metallic and shiny fabrics, patents in different hues and gradients. Colors would be gold, silver, bronze, pewter, copper, purples, reds, yellows and greens. She can wear any color palette and always be in glamorous form.
9. Wish for her?
I wish her all the happiness in the world. Good health for her and her family... more shows...
What else can you wish for someone who has everything??
10. Contact details for the readers, if they want to get in touch with you
Our office address is 1801 Centerpoint Bldg. Julia Vargas Ave. Ortigas Center, Pasig City. Tel 6337691 loc 124. My mobile number is 0917-8511960.

2008 Fashion Forecast
There are four major themes for spring 2008 shoes.
BARE ESSENTIALS - Exposing plenty of flesh, sheer layers and peekaboo toes. Transparent materials like lucites, acrylics and nude mesh for see through effects. Shiny metals...
HIPPIE REVIVAL - Clearly into something with its retrospective of free wheeling sixties psychedelia – it was the summer of love all over again with masses of fringe and splatterings of tie-dye, lilac, teal and fairies. The mad mash-up of hippie and rock styles is a crowd pleaser. It’s Love fest once again, adding a bit of seventies swing and prairie panache to the mix. Groove on!!!
NEON BUBBLE - This is no season of shrinking violets. Color reached its saturation point as fall’s gray ladies made way for chartreuse, tomato red, electric blue, and eye-popping neon shades of green, orange, yellow, and pink. Explosion of ultra bright hues. Color blockings.
FLORAL STEMS - Everything’s coming up roses and daisies, lilacs, hydrangeas, and poppies for spring. Feeling optimistic adorned all manner of prints with lush painterly flowers.
We are creating shoes for Ms. Kris Aquino with towering high heels in different textures and hues to match her outfits. Metallics and glittering shiny fabrics, gradient patents. Lines will be simple with focus on 6-inch heels and wedges.
